History book donated to the
      Danish Navy Library
Subject: Presentation and donation of the AOM History book to the Danish
Navy Library 23 September 1999.

I have on the 23 September 1999 - on behalf of our fellow AOM members handed our "U. S Naval Mines and the Minemen - A History Book" - donated to the "Danish Navy Library" at Holmen Copenhagen. The "History Book" was handed over during a small reception.

The "History Book has been donated by our Association in recognition of the Royal Danish Navy's role in modern warfare - their significant contribution to the development of U.S.N. mine hardware deployment and maintenance policies and strategies. For their many hardware improvements and innovations recognized by the U.S.N. Engineering Activity and personnel. Most important for their long-standing partnership with the U.S.N. minewarfare activities, facilities, and personnel in perpetuating naval mine weapons as a formidable first line of defense in both tactical and defensive scenarios.

I had the honor - as membership number HO-11 of our Association - to hand over our "History Book" and will, on behalf of the "Danish Navy Library" give all my fellow members a - thank you so much for the donation of the book. The only book on hand in a foreign country on a naval Library.

The wording in the letter from our AOM President to the Commander Senior Grade P  Groth - head of the Library goes to my heart - all shall know - that I have done my job - to my best ability through all my life - in a way that I felt was the best for my own country - Denmark - in war as in peacetime - as well as during the "Cold War" threats for the U.S.N. in our common interest to build up the best Mine Weapon in the World - ready to act on a very short notice - not days.

My time is running out - but all my time with the U.S.N. as well as all my personnel friends in the United State of America should know that the wording in the letter to the Naval Library: "We are pleased to have Commander Joergen Strange Lorenzen, Royal Danish Navy (Retired), as one of our most stalwart members of our organization. Although honored and held in heroic esteem by our Nation and Navy, he is equally regarded by many of us as a true champion of minewarfare" These words will be with me to my last day. Sincerely - thank you all from the old men - Joergen

To Mr. Joe A. Balderrama.

Dear Mr. President.

On behalf of The Royal Danish Navy and the Danish Naval Library I want to thank You very much indeed for the excellent and rare book: "U. S. Naval Mines and the Minemen A History" and Your kind letter in Which You donate the book to the library.

On the 23 September we had an informal meeting at the Naval Library. At the meeting, we where privileged to have the book handed over to the library by a proud honorary member of The Association of Minemen, Commander Jorgen Strange Lorenzen R.D.N. (Ret.).

Of course we recalled and remembered a few of the legends and stories of the days of the 60 ties.

This good looking and fine book constitutes a valuable supplement to what we already have on the shelves in form of books and articles about mine weapons and -warfare.

As You know, the capability to mine the Danish Straits has always been a priority for The Danish Defense and a major topic for the Navy_

The library feels privileged to have received this book.
Yours sincerely
S/ Preben Groth
